The Rotman School of Management and The Canadian Journalism Foundation have partnered to develop The Media Management Executive Education Program.
The face of journalism education is changing in Canada with an increase in the demand for senior level programs that give the new generation of journalists a forum to exchange ideas, develop approaches and build networks. Along with this is a transition in the careers of many journalists as they step up into management roles. These journalists have solid experience and expertise in their field, but may not have received any formal training in management fundamentals.
The need of the hour is for an INTEGRATED media executive, one who not only knows the power of impactful writing and the ins and outs of journalism, but is able to contextualize and apply it within a broader and increasingly dynamic business environment.
Canada’s only management certificate program for journalists, this program will expose participants to areas of management in which they may have limited practical and applied experience. This program addresses the challenges facing media executives today and helps equip managers with the necessary tools to make smarter strategic and operational decisions. The focus is on developing business-knowledgeable journalists through an integrated curriculum covering topics including:
- Strategic Innovation
- Finance
- People Management Skills
- Decision Making
- Communications
The integrated program topics will be augmented through the presence of EXPERTS-IN-RESIDENCE, veteran media professionals who will make meaningful connections between the curriculum content and the issues facing media managers today.
